Emory Andrew Tate II, a former U.S. Air Force pilot and active professional chess player, was Andrew Tate’s father. Emory Tate was well-known for being the father of Andrew and Tristan Tate and the first African-American to hold the title of International Master in chess. 

Emory Tate II passed away on October 17, 2015, while participating in an Illinois chess competition. He had a heart attack during the match and passed away before reaching the hospital. Emory Andrew Tate II, a chess grandmaster and former U.S. Air Force pilot, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 27, 1958. Being the son of renowned attorney Emory Andrew Tate Sr., Emory Tate has shown extraordinarily high levels of intelligence from an early age.

Emory Tate was born and raised in the United States and later enlisted in the Air Force, where he served with distinction for many years. His wife, Eileen Tate, whom he met while serving in the Air Force in England, and his three children, Andrew Tate, Tristan Tate, and Janine Tate, were subsequently raised in the United States.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, Emory Tate promptly filed for divorce from his wife, Eileen Tate. Emory Tate remained in the United States and carried on playing in chess competitions, while Eileen relocated back to England to care for her three children. On October 17, 2015, Emory Tate passed away while participating in an Illinois chess competition.

While in the Air Force, Emory Tate gained notoriety for mastering foreign languages more quickly than any other person in history.

For one of his assignments, he had to learn Russian, and according to Andrew Tate, his father understood the language in less than three weeks. Former Air Force colleagues of Emory Tate described his learning style as “robotic.” He would memorize Russian dictionaries with his photographic memory!

Emory Tate is known for becoming the first international grandmaster of African descent. Emory Andrew Tate II made a fortune playing chess professionally and frequently “hustled” other players in nearby chess clubs for cash.

Andrew Tate said his father never learned chess using chess computers or books. Instead, he engaged in as much chess competition as possible while learning from his wins and losses. This is unique because most chess players have to spend a lot of time studying to improve.

Emory Tate was “certainly a pathfinder for African-American chess,” according to Maurice Ashley, the first African-American grandmaster. Andrew Tate, who was taught to play chess by his father, Emory Tate, became the youngest-ever Indiana state chess champion at six. How Did Emory Tate Die? 

On October 17, 2015, Emory Tate passed away while participating in a chess competition in Chicago, Illinois. Emory Tate unexpectedly experienced a heart attack during the opening round of the competition. Someone saw him yell, “call 911,” as he left the bathroom before passing out and falling to the ground.

Before reaching the hospital, Emory Tate passed away. According to his son Andrew Tate, his father passed away while participating in a one-on-one chess competition. A few days following Emory Tate’s passing, his funeral was held. Tristan and Andrew Tate were too busy running their webcam studio in Bucharest, Romania, to make it to the burial.

Relationship Between Andrew Tate and His father Emory Tate 

Emory Tate, Andrew Tate’s father, and he shared a deep and affectionate relationship. In social media posts, Andrew revealed much information about his father’s life, including how his parents met and why Emory worked for American intelligence. 

Emory’s intellect and multilingual proficiency led him to a job in government, where he met his wife, Eileen Ashleigh. Emory had two additional kids, Tristan and Janine and Andrew.

However, Emory lived a large portion of his life apart from his kids because Eileen moved back to London after the couple’s divorce. On October 17, 2015, Emory tragically lost his life at the age of 56 while taking part in a chess tournament.
