Ariana Grande has given fans a glimpse of what they can expect from the upcoming movie adaptation of Broadway show “Wicked,” as she shared some behind-the-scenes photos from the set with her 256 million Instagram followers. Grande is playing Glinda alongside Cynthia Erivo, who will portray Elphaba, and in the photos, the two actresses can be seen wearing chic dresses and posing for the camera. In another snap, they showed off matching manicures as they held hands at a dinner table. The movie is slated to hit theaters on November 27, 2024.
The pop star, who first revealed her role in the project in January, captioned the pics with lyrics from one of the musical’s numbers, writing: “up to (no) good 🫧 🧹,” referencing “No Good Deed.” The post also included a shot with co-star Jonathan Bailey, who plays Fiyero, and one of Grande’s pink Ugg-booted feet next to another set likely belonging to film director Jon Chu.
Erivo shared the same set of photographs on her Instagram account. In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight”, Chu revealed the possibility of the original stars, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, making an appearance in the movie adaptation. Both of them appeared in the original Broadway show.
Fans can’t wait for the release of the film adaptation of “Wicked,” and the sneak peek provided by Grande and Erivo has only added to their excitement as they await the movie’s release on the big screen.
The original stage production of “Wicked” premiered on Broadway in 2003 and has since become one of the most successful musicals of all time, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. The film adaptation is set to feature Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Ethan Slater as Boq.
