Bruno Gerussi’s Childhood and Adulthood
On 7 May 1928, In Medicine Hat, Alberta, Gerussi was born. The oldest child of Lethbridge coal miner Enrico Gerussi & Teresina Lazzorotto, who studied stonemasonry in Italy.
The two did get married and moved to Medicine Hat in 1927. After that, the family relocated to Exshaw, where Enrico was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway as a section man.
Bruno Gerussi lived in Exshaw, British Columbia, where he was born and raised before moving to New Westminster along with his family. He enrolled at the Banff School of Fine Arts after being awarded a scholarship there.
Bruno’s father was just 22 years old when he committed himself by hanging himself in the woods outside of the regional mental hospital in Essondale. There is no denying that he had a less-than-ideal upbringing.
Bruno’s Career in The Beachcombers
Gerussi’s most prominent part came in 1972 when Marc & Susan Strange cast him as Nick Adonidas in their comedy-adventure film The Beachcombers, which was set on the Canadian west coast.
The Beachcombers are still Canada’s lengthiest weekly dramatic series, having aired 387 episodes from 1972 to 1990. A few of the longest-running television shows were produced for English-speaking Canadian television.
Gerussi hosted the CBC culinary show Celebrity Cooks in the late 1970s and most of the 1980s while he was a member of The Beachcombers.

Bruno’s Death
Bruno Gerussi died from a heart attack on November 21, 1995, in Vancouver, at the residence of his lover, Judge Nancy Morrison. He died when he was 67 years old.
In honor of him, the 2002 television film The New Beachcombers bear his name. From 2002 through 2004, a brand-new series was aired.
In 1996, he received the Earle Grey Award for lifetime accomplishment from the Geminis. It was accepted on his behalf by Rico and Tina, his daughters.
