When Will “Captain Marvel 2” Be In Theaters?
The theatrical release is currently planned for July 8, 2022. It remains to be seen whether anything will change because of the Corona crisis. Due to the pandemic, numerous shoots on other blockbusters such as “Mission: Impossible 7” or “Dune” have been canceled for the time being. The start of the MCU film “Black Widow” with Scarlett Johansson in the lead role has even been postponed from April 30 to October 28, 2020. Changes are also possible here at any time.
What Is The Sequel To “Captain Marvel” About?
The sequel to “Captain Marvel” will not play in the 1990s like Part 1, but in the presence of the MCU and thus after the events of “Avengers: Endgame”, which marked the end of the so-called “Infinity Saga”. Further details on the plot have not yet been confirmed.
But there are plenty of rumors: According to The Direct, “Captain Marvel 2” is supposed to adapt the storyline of the “Secret Invasion” comic series for the cinema. The Skrulls, who appeared in the first part, play a crucial role in this. The alien race will probably also appear in “The Eternals”, which is due to start in February 2021. Accordingly, the sequel to “Captain Marvel”, like “The First Avenger: Civil War”, could become a kind of intermediate “Avengers” part, in which several characters from the MCU cosmos can be seen.
The Direct also reports that Ms. Marvel will also be part of the film. The first Muslim comic character from Marvel is already getting its own series from the streaming provider Disney+. And in 2019, Marvel boss Kevin confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that Ms. Marvel should then also be seen in the MCU’s movies.
Which Stars Are In “Captain Marvel 2”?
So far, only the return of Brie Larson as Carol Denvers/Captain Marvel has been confirmed. After her solo film and “Avengers: Endgame” this would be her third appearance as a superhero. Lashana Lynch, who played Carol Denver’s friend Maria Rambeau in the first part, has already expressed interest in getting back into the role in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. She can soon be seen as an agent in “James Bond 007 – No Time to Die”.
It is still unclear whether Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg will resume their roles from “Captain Marvel”. Since all of the MCU’s films are linked in terms of content, there can of course also be appearances by other Avengers and superheroes.
