Chloe Bailey Reveals Criticism Was “Killing” Her Inside

Chloe Bailey recently opened up about the toll criticism has taken on her in a new interview with People. The singer, who rose to fame alongside her sister Halle as Chloe x Halle, has faced backlash for her new sexy image since branching out on her own. Bailey, now 24, admits that while she never publicly addressed the negative comments, they were affecting her mental health. “As much as I would see it and try to act like it didn’t affect or bother me, it would,” she said. “I was starting to believe the lies that the trolls were saying online, and I started to look down on myself even more than what I already was doing with my own insecurities.”

Bailey spoke about the fear she felt when starting a solo career, admitting she and her sister didn’t know who they were without each other. However, she says ignoring criticism has helped her get to a better mental space. “Once I ignored it, I’ve been good,” she said.

Despite the difficulties, Bailey has found support within the music industry. In August, actor and musician Trevor Jackson tweeted his support after Bailey faced backlash for a racy Instagram Live performance. “There’s literally nothing wrong with Chloe dancing around with her homegirls and showing love to each other ESPECIALLY AFTER STRUGGLING WITH CHEST ISSUES FOR YEARS,” he wrote. “Y’all be too much sometimes lol let Chloe live if she wanna be sexy ON HER OWN TERMS. feel better Chloe.”

As for Bailey, her new solo album, “In Pieces,” drops on September 10. She said the project reflects her diverse range of influences, from Erykah Badu to Timbaland. “I never wanted to be boxed in as one thing,” she said. “This album has to have different parts of me.”
