The Festif de Baie-Saint-Paul: Slowing Down to Stay the Course

As one of the biggest cultural events in the region, the Festif de Baie-Saint-Paul has seen significant momentum over the years. However, the organizers now feel it’s time to slow things down a bit to ensure sustainability and preserve the festival’s essence.

According to the festival’s artistic director, slowing down doesn’t mean scaling back on the quality or diversity of programming but rather finding a better balance between the festival’s growth and maintaining its local, community-driven feel.

“We want to create an event that is authentic and respects the values of the region. It’s not just about big names and increasing attendance numbers,” says Angèle Dubeau.

The festival has already started implementing some changes, such as reducing the number of venues and focusing on more environmentally sustainable practices. This year, the number of performances will also decrease to allow artists to have more time to interact with the public and foster a more intimate atmosphere.

Despite these adjustments, festival-goers can still expect a diverse mix of music genres, including Quebec folk, blues, rock, and singer-songwriter acts. The event will also continue to feature local artisans and food vendors, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Dubeau believes that by slowing down, the festival will ensure its long-term viability and strengthen its connection with the community.

“We want to keep listening to what our audience needs and wants. We want the Festif to be an event that people look forward to every year, and that’s only possible if we stay true to ourselves.”

The 2021 Festif de Baie-Saint-Paul will take place from July 22 to 25, and tickets are available for purchase on the festival’s website.
