  • The superhit web series ” Game of Thrones ” is finally back!
  • But it might not be in the way fans have been expecting.

Winter is coming, the news is official! However, not on TV screens at home or even on the big screen. A new story from Westeros is told in a very unexpected place for many: in the theater. More precisely, on Broadway in Australia! Why is? Just one of the series’ biggest mysteries, nothing more.

What is the story?

The play is about a famous tournament in Harrenhal. Fans will surely recognize the name: The tournament was the place where the then Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, the winner, placed a blue rose on Lyanna Stark’s lap. Nothing big about it? Politically yes: Lyanna was promised to someone else, Rhaegar himself was already married! This small gesture led to a chain reaction that ultimately laid the foundation for the book series and series “Game of Thrones”! The description of the play promises a lot: “ The play will take the audience behind the scenes of a groundbreaking event that was previously shrouded in secrets .” The story revolves around “Love, vengeance, madness and the dangers of grappling with prophecies that reveal secrets and lies. ”Exciting, we would say!

“The seeds of war are often planted in times of peace,” writes author George RR Martin about the play. “ Very few in Westeros knew of the bloodbath that would follow when the aristocracy and the rank and file gathered at Harrenhal to watch the greatest knights in the country at this great tournament. The tournament has been featured many times on the HBO series “Game of Thrones” and in my books “A Song of Ice and Fire” and now – finally – we can tell the full story. ”

Who is playing?

The play is still in the making, so nothing is known about the actors. Even the characters aren’t certain, based on the story, but we can assume icons like Ned Stark, Lyanna Stark, Jaime Lannister, Robert Baratheon, Rhaegar Targaryen, and Oberyn Martell will be there. Fans will have to be patient for a while: The piece won’t premiere until 2023.
