Due to COVID 19 pandemic, the production of Grace and Frankie season 7 was paused.
The release of Grace and Frankie season 6 was exciting yet saddening at the same time; because as the credits rolled on the last episode it revealed that only season 7 remains. The fact that this is the final season left a tinge of sadness for our fans.
The excitement of last season if Grace and Frankie lasted only as long as Covid 19 allowed. The show’s production was paused in mid-March for the cast’s and crew’s safety.
In September 2020, Jane Fonda (Grace) told Today that the filming will be resumed in January 2021 but unfortunately even that date was pushed back further.
HAS THE FILMING OF SEASON 7 FINALLY BEGUN?
In the November blog post, it was revealed that filming will resume in early June. Jane Fonda in another post on June 21 wrote that the shooting starts “tomorrow”, June 21. She admitted that she was excited; “ I’ve enjoyed having to learn my lines for my scenes tomorrow and Tuesday. I’m getting excited.”
I’m her previous posts she also explains why filming took this long to resume, “A long time to wait but, given the age and vulnerability of the four leads, it’s best.” she wrote. “I’ll be headed into eighty-four by the time we’re done Yikes!”
It has been a tough break for the whole cast for them it was equivalent to being separated from family. Especially for Jane Fonda, as she really misses her co-star Lily Tomlin, who plays Frankie. “I love Lily, when I don’t see her on regular basis, I need a fix.”
WHO IS IN THE CAST OF GRACE AND FRANKIE SEASON 7?
Fans will be excited to know that Grace and Frankie season seven will feature all of their beloved cast members-
- Jane Fonda as Grace
- Lily Tomlin as Frankie
- Sam Waterson as Sol
- Martin Sheen as Robert
- Brooklyn Decker as Mallory
- June Diane Raphael as Brianna

IS DOLLY PARTON MAKING AN APPEARANCE IN SEASON SEVEN?
What’s more exciting is that country music legend Dolly Parton will also be joining the cast as a guest star.
In an interview on Lorraine, Dolly Parton shared her excitement and said, “ I’ve been trying to do Grace and Frankie for years.” She is stoked about reuniting with her 9 to 5 co-stars. “We worked so well together on 9 to 5; it’s a crazy wonderful show.”
No doubt, Dolly Parton’s appearance on the show is going to be an epic moment.
TWO PARTS CAN BE RELEASED FOR SEASON SEVEN
Since the release of the season, seven fans have already waited one whole year for season seven. Martin Sheen (Grace’s husband) told SiriusXM’s Bruce Bozzi that production might release four episodes first and then hold onto the rest of the episodes. “They are talking about the possibility of streaming the four episodes we’ve done because it seems to have an arc and they’ve got it all ready to go,” Martin told SiriusXM’s radio host Bruce Bozzi. “So maybe they’ll put them on and you’ll see the first four episodes.”
He also added that the filming is scheduled to take place for over four months, which means the first half will be released earlier and another half of season seven could premiere in early to mid-2022.
HOW MANY EPISODES WILL BE THERE IN THE FINAL SEASON?
The first six seasons have featured thirteen episodes of the duration of almost thirty minutes each. But this time fans will be blessed with a total of sixteen episodes. It is still ambiguous how these extra ninety minutes will be used to enhance the final storyline or climax, but we have faith that it’s bound to be good regardless.
When it all wraps up, Grace and Frankie will have 94 episodes in total. Having seven seasons in all will make the show longest running Netflix original series.
WILL SEASON SEVEN-STEP INTO NEW TERRITORY?
In early January, Martha Kauffman gave Good housekeeping a little bit of insight into the seventh season that she hadn’t even started writing the script. “In terms of season 7, I can’t say too much, but we’re going to be dealing with Robert, Sol, Grace, and Frankie in a way in that we haven’t seen before,” she said. “We know as much as we can know without having written (season 7). Things change during production, and things you thought were going to work phenomenally just don’t. We think we know where we’re going, but I’ll let you know when we get there if we stuck to that plan.”
ARE THERE ANY SPOILERS?
Beyond the fact that season seven will show a new side of Frankie, Grace, Sol and Robert.
But based on what happened in season six spoiler alert, if you haven’t finished watching, season 7 could see the original four: Grace, Frankie, Sol, and Robert living under the same roof for the first time since their divorces, which could only add to tensions brewing with Grace’s now-husband Nick. There’s also a chance season seven will see yet another wedding, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Martha hopes that as fans say goodbye to their beloved Grace and Frankie, they walk away with a renewed sense of confidence. “I hope that [the show] inspires people to realize that just because one phase of your life ends doesn’t mean that another one doesn’t begin — and it can be better than the previous phases,” Marta says. “I hope people realize they are vibrant and sexual, and with a good woman friend, you can do anything.”
