For some of the fans who are watching Shang-Chi on Disney PLyus will be the only way they can watch the latest marvel hit. Black Widow might have been on the premier access wing of the streaming service at launch, but that’s not the case here. At least for now it’s a theatrical exclusive.

All of this has led people to wonder when Shang-Chi will be available on Disney Plus, so we do have an answer to your question. According to recent reports, the movie will hit the streamer Disney Plus after a 45-day theatrical run. With that said, Shang Chi should be available on streaming service on October 18th,2021. that is 45 days after its release date on September 3, 2021.

The CEO of Disney Bob Chapek said in an announcement: “We think it’s actually going to be an interesting experiment for us because it only has a 45-day window for us [before streaming],” Before the coronavirus pandemic, movies would normally have a minimum exclusive theatrical run of 90 days – hence the “experiment” comments.

However, those words caused a huge controversy with Shang Chi actor Simu Liu who said in responding comment on Twitter with the caption: “We are not an experiment.”

Despite the release of Balck widow via Disney Plus, the movie still gained a hugely successful opening weekend at the box office. That made it upwards of $90 million domestically and $60 million through Disney Plus. Those numbers also quickly fall off in the preceding weekends which impacted the streaming release.

As Shang-Chi is in cinemas only, for now, Liu and the others won’t likely bring lawsuits against Disney. This will give the movie a good chance at making a fair bit of money on the opening weekend. Coming to October 17th, though the movie will be on Disney Plus, it can still earn huge through the box office.
