How do Canadians like to spend their free time?

All people, no matter in which country they live, like to have a good time spending their money on high-quality entertainment. Canadians for example have formed a certain pattern of what favorite pastimes they have. After the COVID-19 pandemic, many entertainment companies have admitted that the audience of people who started to travel all around the country in the post-pandemic era has increased significantly. Statistics is pretty interesting, as there are a couple of spheres that attract more and more Canadians these days.

Types of activities Canadians prefer

The hobbies of Canadians are very diverse. It is impossible to select just one of them, so it is important to highlight the most popular ones:

  • Sporting Services. Canadians have a strong passion for sports and recreational events. In the second quarter of 2022, locals have spent more than 3 billion CAD on sporting services and recreation. They include live sports broadcasting through cable TV and streaming services, recreational activities, and attending sports events in real life. An increase for this industry is almost 13% per quarter, which is huge.
  • Gambling Industry. Considering new rules of gambling regulation in different provinces of Canada, it became possible for big companies to enter the local market and present people with an opportunity to play casino games from the palm of their hands. A good example of that is the Pin Up Bet app, which can be used on all modern smartphones and tablets with Android. According to the official statistics – there are more than 19 million active online gamblers in the country as of 2023. The main reason for that is the ability to play on the go, thanks to mobile gadgets.
  • Cultural Services and Cinemas. The appetite for culture and arts is on the rise. Expenditures on cultural services, including performances at opera houses, concert halls, and musical events, reached 684 million CAD in the second quarter of 2022. This marked an impressive 16% increase from the previous year. In the same vein, Canadians seem eager to return to cinemas, as spending in such institutions has increased by 765% in the second quarter of 2022 compared to the situation during the pandemic. But these results are still not on the same level they were before COVID-19.

Of course, it is almost impossible to enjoy entertainment without having some delicious food and drinks. Some statistics show that in the second half of 2022, Canadians have spent more than 18 million CAD on food services, and these numbers are higher than they were before the pandemic. This shows that not all businesses were affected by the limitations of the last couple of years.

The entertainment situation is getting better

Canadians are getting back to spending their time on different types of entertainment. The surge in spending on cultural services, sports, gambling, transportation, and other spheres is understandable – people finally have an opportunity to live their lives to the fullest. One thing can be said for sure, locals are passionate about entertainment, and they are ready to spend money to make the most of their leisure time.
