For a personality who knows how to make a splash on the red carpet and on stage, Jared Leto is no stranger to fashion. Now, the Oscar-winning actor and frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars will play one of the biggest names in the industry.
According to information from Women’s Wear Daily, Leto will play the late fashion icon, Karl Lagerfeld, in a biopic that the actor is producing in collaboration with the house that still bears Lagerfeld’s name.
“I feel like this is a full circle moment and Karl would be proud of what we’re doing,” Leto told the outlet, adding, “Karl was an artist. Period. He was a fashion designer, he was a photographer, he was an artist. There was no way to define him. He was a creative powerhouse.”
The renowned designer died in 2019, but before his death, according to WWD, Jared told him that he wanted to portray him, to which the creative would have replied: “Only you, honey, only you.”
The actor retweeted the article, noting, “Karl has always been an inspiration to me. He was a true polymath, an artist, an innovator, a leader and most importantly a kind man.”
Jared detailed that when he met with the late designer’s team, he immediately shared the creative vision of making a respectful ode to Karl while also pushing the artistic boundaries of what a biopic can be.
According to Karl Lagerfeld’s company, the biopic will focus on “the key relationships in his life, told through an unpredictable lens, much like that of the man himself.”
