Today (February 15), Lady Gaga unveiled a first-look image of herself in character on the set of the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. In the close-up shot, Gaga is seen holding the face of her co-star Joaquin Phoenix, both wearing red lipstick and reprising their roles from the film’s first instalment in 2019.

Directed and co-written by Todd Philips and with Scott Silver, Folie à Deux is described as a musical and is set for release on October 4, 2024. Gaga’s cover as iconic love-interest Harley Quinn was confirmed last August and was met with approval from Margot Robbie who currently voices Harley in the animated HBO Max series. Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson and Zazie Beetz also star in Folie à Deux.

The first Joker movie, released in 2019, was a success with Joaquin Phoenix winning Best Actor at the Academy Awards. Phoenix will now return to reprise his role as the title character, alongside Gaga and the supporting cast.

No details yet have been revealed of the plot, but it has been confirmed that Folie à Deux will serve as a standalone film in the DC film canon and will not cross protagonist storylines with any other films produced by the DC Homes. Fans will have to wait and see how the story plays out.
