In mid-February, the shooting of the sixth season of Outlander began in Scotland. In the meantime, Starz has even announced that at least one more season will be produced afterward. Another twelve episodes were ordered for season seven. Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin all stay on board.
Showrunner Matt Roberts, according to TVLine: “We’re thrilled that Starz is allowing us to continue the epic ‘Outlander’ journey. We can’t wait to get down to the script and unravel ‘Echo in the Bone’. We look forward to offering fans another exciting season.”
The Diana Gabaldon novel “An Echo in the Bone” from 2009 is being adapted. Spoiler for the book: It’s about Brees (Skelton) and Rogers (Rankin) life after she and her children return to the 20th century, where they meet someone else who has also traveled through time. In the past, Claire (Balfe), Jamie (Heughan), and their now grown-up son William are embroiled in the Revolutionary War.
Two main characters die, a few new ones are introduced, someone is thought to be dead and Lord John ( David Berry ) instigates the strictest protective measures for Claire, which in turn create problems of their own.

What happens in season 6?
But first of all, season six is still coming up anyway. In it, Claire will have to deal with her abduction and rape by Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy), which took place towards the end of the fifth season. The rest of the family becomes embroiled in the American War of Independence. The new episodes will likely adapt the book A Breath of Snow and Ashes, the sixth in Diana Gabaldon’s novel series.
It is currently not known when the new Outlander episodes can be expected. But since the shooting started only recently, it should take a few more months.
