Starz has confirmed that Power Book II: Ghost has been renewed for a second season. The announcement was made on the show’s social channels, with the caption: “We thought we told you that we won’t stop. Season 2 is about to be even more.”
Starz hasn’t said when we can expect the next batch of episodes, but given that season one arrived at the beginning of September 2020, the best-case scenario is September 2021. There is no official release date since COVID-19 has made shooting far more difficult than it ever was.
- Tariq ( Michael Rainey Jr ) → Jamaican-American actor
- Monet ( Mary J Blige ) → American singer-songwriter
- Cooper ( Shane Johnson ) → American actor
- Brayden ( Gianni Paolo ) → American actor
- Tameika ( Quincy Tyler Bernstine ) → American actress
- Zeke ( Daniel Bellomy ) → American actor
- Lauren ( Paige Hurd ) → American actress
- Davis ( Clifford Smith ) → American rapper better known for his stage name “Method Man”.
“In the second season, Tariq’s journey with the Tejada family will get even more complicated and more dangerous as he begins to understand the man he’s going to become,” said the ghost creator Courtney Kemp in a statement. Chatting to Entertainment Weekly about the next chapter, she added: “Well, obviously Tariq has committed a huge murder and there’s going to be a big response to that on campus. Where we had begun an encroachment of his drug life into his school life with the incidents that took place in episode eight with the attempt on his life and the body in the pool, now his whole drug life has crashed into his campus life in a real way. And Tariq definitely feels like he’s walking around like a ticking time bomb. His relationships are going to get more complicated, and while that’s all happening he’s still got a love life. As for Tariq’s mum Tasha ( Naturi Naughton ), she’s now in a protection program, which means we’ll probably be seeing a lot less of her.
Tariq made a choice to save his mum, but it’s a choice that he doesn’t have total control over because he doesn’t know where she’s going,” Courtney Kemp told the Deadline. She further added “So, I think what will come up in the next season is his lack of ability to contact his mother, to be with his mother, and to have that connection. Part of the journey of season two is absolutely going through and making decisions without the benefit of someone to call.” Kemp also said that ethics is going to be a central theme in season two, telling Deadline that “Tariq’s class, the Canonical Studies class, moves into an ethics unit.” She elaborated: “Is there such a thing as the real greater good, right? Is there a greater good? Does the end justify the means? I mean, that’s a question that we’re always asking in Power but when you’re asked to write a paper about that or speak about that in class and you have committed some pretty heinous acts in order to achieve your end…that’s one I could address and say that those are some things that are coming along for sure.”
Professor Jabari Reynolds ( Justin McManus ) was murdered by Tariq, so we wouldn’t expect him to feature in season two, unless in flashback form or as a figment of Tariq’s imagination.
Currently, Season 2 has no trailer. We are not likely to get one until filming begins. Most likely, we will get to see our first trailer for the season at the end of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, set to air at some point in 2021.
