Rihanna received a standing ovation for her performance of “Lift Me Up” at the Oscars 2023 on March 12. The Best Original Song nominees each performed their nominated track, with Rihanna’s performance introduced by Wakanda Forever star Danai Gurira, who used the moment to pay tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. Other performances of the night came from Lady Gaga and David Byrne, Son Lux, and Stephanie Hsu. The latter trio performed “This Is A Life,” with Byrne wearing the movie’s infamous hot dog fingers. Additionally, an “uncomfortable” red carpet interview with Hugh Grant and Jimmy Kimmel addressing Will Smith’s slap from last year were also in the spotlight. Ke Huy Quan reflected on his journey to his first Oscar for his role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, which had 11 nominations going into the ceremony and won three awards, including Best Supporting Actor.
