Who is Ron DeSantis? And His Lifetime Achievements So far

The American Politician was born on September 14, 1978, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Karen and Ronald Daniel DeSantis. His mother was a nurse, and his father used to install Nielson TV rating boxes. DeSantis is of Italian ethnicity.

He grew up in Dunedin DeSantis and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and Dunedin High School, completing his school education in 1997. DeSantis is 180cm (5’9 feet) tall. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in arts, in 2001, from Yale University.

He was Yale’s varsity baseball team’s captain there and joined the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.  Alongside his studies at university, he also worked as an electrician and a coach at a baseball camp. After completing his degree at Yale, Ron used to teach history and coached at Darlington School for a year.

While teaching history, especially Civil War, DeSantis’s views were a subject of much talk among students. He also attended Harward Law School and graduated with honors as a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2005. In his second year at Harward, Ron earned a commission in the U.S. Navy as a JAG officer.

Next year he completed Naval Justice school. In 2006, he got a promotion from junior grade lieutenant to lieutenant. In 2007, Ron was moved to Iraq as a legal advisor to the US Navy SEAL commander to support the SEAL mission in Falluja, Ramadi, and the rest of the AI Anbar province. In 2008, he was reassigned to Naval Region Southeast Legal Services in the U.S.

His military service earned him a Bronze Star Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War Terrorism Service Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. 

He was appointed as the Special Assistant U.S. attorney by the U.S. Department of Justice, where he targeted and convicted child predators. Parallelly, he attended The Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the US Navy Reserve as a lieutenant.

Ron DeSantis’s First Steps in American Politics

In 2012, he was elected to Florida’s Republican primary 6th congressional district and made his way into the House of Representatives. He ran for the same position in 2014 and 2016 and won every time. During his tenure, he supported several agendas like instituting term limits for Congress members, the No Budget/No Pay Act, and reducing taxes. 

In 2015, when the then United States Senate, Marco Rubio, did not file for reelection, Ron DeSantis announced his plan to go for the chair. But he withdrew once Rubio filed for reelection. 

How Did he Come to the Post of Governor of Florida?

While serving in House, Ron ran an ad showing his support for Donald trump. In January 2018, Ron announced that he would run the campaign for the election of Governor of Florida. He had Donald Trump at his back and resigned from the Republican primary to continue for the Governor. 

In his gubernatorial campaign, his several agendas were supporting the regulations to allow people with concealed weapons permits to carry firearms openly. The law-making use of E- Verify compulsory by businesses, a law banning undocumented immigrants to protect sanctuary cities, controlling water pollution from Lake Okeechobee, supporting a state constitutional amendment to require a supermajority vote for any tax increment.

On November 17, he was confirmed as the winner, with a close margin of 0.4 %, against the Democrat’s representative Andrew Gillum. In 2022, DeSantis filed for reelection against Charlie Crist. In November, he won with 59.4% vote to 40% of Crist’s vote. His victory margin (i.e., 1,500,000 votes) has been the largest since 1982. 

DeSantis’s Tenure as Governor of Florida and His Policies

Ron swore for the Governor on January 8, 2019, for his first tenure. He signed the law ending the restriction on the use of medical marijuana. This law is named SB 182.  Months after this SB 182 law, another law was signed by DeSantis, i.e., SB 168, Federal Immigration Enforcement.

In 2020, during the Covid outbreak, Ron’s decision was against imposing the emergency in the state. Many had criticized his approach, but Ron was firm with his decision. When it was affirmative that Florida was facing community spread, he imposed a 30-day lockdown, starting from 1 April, leaving exceptional services from this bracket.

Ron was accused of spreading misleading information regarding Covid-19 deaths. Initially, Ron was quite unpopular for his approaches to handling the pandemic, but after a few months, it followed many approvals. But he lifted the mandate on face masks, and in July, Florida was the red center of the virus.

He declared a state of emergency in September 2022 on the approach of Hurricane Ian. He partnered with Elon Musk for satellite internet services to restore communication. Her wife also helped to deploy mental health resources to the affected ones.

On June 1, 2021, DeSantis signed a law banning transgender girls and women from participating and competing in high school and college sports competitions in Florida. In 2022, Floridan Governor supported the bill Florida Parental Rights in Education Act, deprecated as the “Don’t Say Gay” law. The law prohibits any talk or teachings about gender identity or sexual orientation for students ranging from kindergarten to grade 3 in schools. This law was the point of high controversies between DeSantis and Disney. 

Who is The First Lady Of The Governor Of Florida?

While DeSantis was working as a JAG officer in US Navy, he met Casey Black, on a golf course, at the University of North Florida. Casey was working as a news anchor for WJXT in Jacksonville at that time. The couple married on September 26, 2009.

The couple welcomed their first child in 2016. They named her Madison. In 2018 they had a boy, whom they named Mason. They had their third child, a girl, in 2020.
