Fans of the action-packed John Wick franchise have much to look forward to with the release of John Wick: Chapter 4. Despite earlier plans to shoot both John Wick: Chapter 4 and John Wick 5 back-to-back, production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced a change of plans. While a fifth entry in the series has not been officially confirmed, director Chad Stahelski has stated that he plans to give the franchise “a rest”. This does not rule out the possibility of future movies entirely, but fans may have to wait a while for any announcements.
Actor Keanu Reeves, who plays John Wick, has also indicated that any potential sequel will depend on the success of John Wick: Chapter 4. Speaking to TotalFilm, Reeves said, “You have to see how the audience responds to what we did. The only reason we’ve had a chance to make these movies is that people have liked what we have done. So I think we have to wait and see how the audience responds to it.”
In the meantime, fans can enjoy two upcoming spin-offs. The first is Ballerina, which is currently in production and follows ballerina-assassin Rooney, played by Ana de Armas. The second is the TV series The Continental, set to air later this year on Peacock, which will tell the story of how Winston Scott came to be the proprietor of the Continental hotel.
John Wick: Chapter 4 has received positive reviews, with NME awarding it four stars. While the movie may be long and indulgent, the reviewers state that it remains entertaining throughout. Audiences can expect an action-packed and thrilling experience with the latest installment in the popular franchise.
