San Juan, Mar 9 (EFE News) .- Spirit airline will link La Guardia airport in New York state with the Puerto Rican capital as of April 17, the company reported in a statement on Tuesday, and specified that For now, the frequency of the link will only be weekly on Saturdays.
Spirit’s new flight to Puerto Rico is in addition to those announced today to Nashville in May and Los Angeles in June. The frequency to Nashville will be daily and weekly on Saturdays to Los Angeles.
The news supposes support for the Puerto Rican tourism sector, which due to the covid-19 pandemic has suffered multimillion-dollar losses.
The interruption of cruise ships in the Caribbean area is another of the factors that have most affected Puerto Rico and especially its capital, San Juan, which greatly benefited from the thousands of tourists who populated its streets before the pandemic, particularly in the high season, between the months of December and April.
The slow recovery in tourist arrivals in recent months, however, has raised concerns about the failure of many visitors to comply with safety regulations.
The members of the Association of Owners of Paradores and Tourism of Puerto Rico asked the owners of the nearly 6,000 tourism-related businesses to promote respect for the new rules of coexistence related to covid-19, in the face of irresponsibility of the last dates.
The employers of this sector released a statement last weekend in which it is emphasized that the irresponsible behavior of tourists is not exclusive to foreign visitors and that it is imperative to collaborate with government agencies to ensure the recovery of the travel and entertainment sector .
