The Squid Game became one of Netflix’s most successful series of all time. The South Korean fiction created by Hwang Dong-hyuk not only positioned itself at the top for its elaborate premise, but also launched several of its protagonists to international fame.

One of them is Lee Jung-jae, who has been at the top of the Korean industry since the late 1990s. Although it was confirmed that he will be returning as Seong Gi-hun, also known as player 456, for the second season of The Squid Game, the actor is preparing to make his directorial debut at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Lee will make his directorial debut with the feature film Hunt (Namsun), which will be screened out of competition at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. In addition to being behind the scenes, Lee stars in the film alongside Jung Woo-sung, another well-known actor on the South Korean scene.

Hunt will have its premiere during the Midnight Screening section, alongside French director Quentin Dupieux, who will present his comedy Fumer Fait Tousserby, and Moonage Daydream, the psychedelic documentary about David Bowie directed by Scott Morgen.

Lee acquired the rights to Hunt and wrote the screenplay for this intense espionage thriller. The film follows two elite agents working for the National Security Agency whose mission is to find a North Korean spy, but in the process they are forced to confront the dark truth of their own country.

After its presentation in Cannes, the film must be chosen by a distributor and thus set its international release date. The Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 17 to 28 in France. As for the second season of The Squid Game, so far there is no release date on Netflix.
