1. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
To kick-start your Halloween experience, check out this movie starring Johnny Depp It tells the story of a dangerous man-made creature who was left with scissors instead of hands after his maker died mid-project. He lives alone in a gloomy mansion until a lady comes calling, and that’s when the story thickens. The movie isn’t just packed with horror but also romance, lush cinematography and life lessons.
2. The Addams Family (1991)
Having a reunion with loved ones is exciting, but there’s something weird about Uncle Fester’s homecoming. The entire family begins to notice his strange behaviours and soon suspect that he is not who he claims to be. So you’re left asking, “Will the real uncle please stand up?” Although this movie is a great choice for a spooky Halloween night, it won’t induce those nightmares.
3. Ghostbusters (1984)
Few movies have the potential to make you feel good this Halloween besides Ghostbusters. It follows the story of some scientists who lose their plum positions at a New York university. Consequently, they decide to engage in ghost busting by waging high-tech battles with the supernatural in exchange for money. From a pounding drum machine introduction to an apocalypse climax, this movie delivers intense thrill and suspense.
4. Casper (1995)
This is a supernatural comedy film that will definitely spice up your Halloween experience. Casper is a kind ghost who lives amongst other evil spirits in a haunted mansion in Maine. When an afterlife therapist arrives at the mansion to evict the spirits, he comes with his daughter named Kat. Casper is immediately charmed by Kat, but their love faces challenges brought about by antics from his wicked relatives.
5. Hubie Halloween (2020)
Hubie Halloween is a movie that combines moments of spookiness and some bits of comedy. It tells the story of Hubie Dubois, a selfless community volunteer who is often belittled by his neighbours and regarded as an idiot. However, something awful happens in his town one Halloween night which changes this whole perception. Although this movie won’t cause any nightmares, it’s a good pick for you.
6. It and It: Chapter Two (2017 & 2019)
It: Chapter One is a supernatural horror movie that is based on the novel by Stephen King. The story revolves around seven kids-the Losers’ Club-who are trying to destroy Pennywise, a shapeshifting monster that looks like a scary clown. It: Chapter Two is the second instalment to the series. The events happen 27 years after the first season. The Losers’ Club is forced to reunite as Pennywise is terrorizing the neighbourhood yet again.
7. The Witches (1990)
Halloween is the inspiration behind numerous platin casino games. Apart from that, it’s also the perfect time to watch “The Witches”, a movie that combines comedy and horror. The movie tells the story of young Luke who learns of a plan by witches to transform all children into mice. When the witches find out that Luke is aware of this, they decide to make him the first victim. Now, Luke the mouse must do everything in order to fight these evil witches.
It’s officially that spooky season again, so start planning your costumes and putting those decorations in your house. However, to bring out the Halloween mood, spice up your nights by watching a thriller or even a horror title if you’re into that stuff.
