Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russia will have “a powerful response” if it attacks with greater intensity during the Independence Day of the USSR, which is commemorated this Wednesday.

August 24 is also the sixth month of fighting between the two neighboring countries, for which the Ukrainian president has warned that Russia could take advantage of the symbolic date to intensify the bombing.

Kievans have fled the city fearing a major attack on the Ukrainian capital.

At a summit in kyiv, Zelensky said he would take back Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014.

He said: “We will recover Crimea by whatever means we see fit, without consulting other countries.”
