Usher makes a comeback after three years with his latest single, ‘GLU’. The song is written by Sean Garrett and produced by The Avila Brothers and Lil Jon, who are long-time collaborators of the singer. Usher’s new track is the first solo release after 2020’s ‘Bad Habits’ and following his contribution to ‘Good Love’ by rap duo City Girls last year. Usher is currently doing a Las Vegas residency at the Park MGM after a successful run at Caesars Palace in 2021. The tour started on March 15 and will end on October 28. Additionally, the singer is set to perform at the upcoming Dreamville Festival in April 2023, alongside Burna Boy, Drake, and J. Cole, who is also curating the event.
The singer’s upcoming ninth album has been thought to be a sequel to his diamond-selling album ‘Confessions’, but in a recent GQ cover story, Usher negated this by saying, “I want to be better than what I was.” The album, which is highly anticipated by fans, comes after his last full album release in 2016 with ‘Hard II Love’. The Atlanta native has been teasing the new album since 2019, following an Instagram post with Jermaine Dupri.
Usher’s new release also marks the creative reunion of LA Reid and Usher, who haven’t worked together since ‘Confessions’. Reid, the one who discovered Usher and signed him to LaFace Records, propelled the then 14-year-old to stardom. Alongside his return to music, Usher recently chimed in on the current state of R&B music, refuting longtime friend Diddy’s claims by stating, “He sounds nuts”.
