Virtua Fighter co-creator, Yu Suzuki, has teamed up with NFT firm Oasyx to create 1,000 NFTs based on the first three Virtua Fighter games. The NFTs will reportedly serve as a base for future metaverse avatars. Sega has licensed the IP for the project, but it is unclear whether the firm has any involvement. The NFT market has cooled significantly in the past six months and such projects have generally attracted negative sentiment among video game fans, with Virtua Fighter fans taking to Twitter to complain. Yu Suzuki is best known for his role as director on Shenmue and Shenmue II, and worked on Virtua Fighter until the late 00’s.
