It was in 2013 that Affleck joined the DC Cinematic Universe to bring Bruce Wayne / Batman to life. His debut would take place in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the film that introduced the DC Trinity formed by Clark Kent / Superman (Henry Cavill) – who had already starred in The Man of Steel -, the Dark Knight and Diana. Prince/ Wonder Woman ( Gal Gadot ). Affleck’s signing was greeted by fans with mixed reactions.

The premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the cause of the beginning of the change of plans of the DC cinematic universe. Warner Bros. lost confidence in Snyder because the film was not as well-received as expected. Additionally, the director was battling with the studio for creative control of Justice League during its filming. In turn, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was also affected.

It was in 2016 that it was announced that Affleck would direct, write (alongside Geoff Johns ) and star in The Batman, a solo film about the Dark Knight. However, a year later, things started to get complicated. In 2017, the actor announced that he was leaving the director’s chair and was eventually replaced by director Matt Reeves.

“I showed someone the script for The Batman. They told me, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink to death if you go through what you’ve been through again, ” Affleck himself said in The New York Times. What was the actor referring to with those last statements? As the aforementioned media stressed, Affleck, abandoned the project “after deciding that the troublesome filming of Justice League had undermined his interest. ”

Affleck, like the rest of the Justice League cast and crew , had to contend with Snyder dropping out of filming after his daughter’s suicide and Whedon taking the helm of the film. An experience that has been talked about a lot recently after Ray Fisher, the actor who played Victor Stone / Cyborg, spoke about Whedon’s “abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable” behavior.

Once Reeves arrived in the DC movie universe, The Batman totally changed. Affleck announced in 2019 that he was leaving the franchise and Robert Pattinson was chosen to bring the new Bruce Wayne to life in a film with no connection to the universe in which Affleck’s Dark Knight exists.
